I decided that I wanted to try some different styles of images this time. I have focussed on landscapes the last few times I had gone out, so today was the day to do something different. I’ve never experienced the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh fully, so it was a perfect choice!
It was a very cold, crisp afternoon, but the sun was shining. I now have a section of my room that houses my camera equipment that is always ready to “just go”! My batteries are always charged and my memory cards are empty. I grabbed my equipment for the day and headed off.
I chose to leave my tripod in the car and opted for handheld this time. I did take my full selection of lenses, but I ended up using my 50mm lens the entire afternoon.
My friend Charlotte was with me, with her camera too. We had only just started our visit and were checking our settings, when this beautiful robin appeared just inches from us! I’ve never known a bird to get so close and I adore robins, so of course I had to capture some images of him!
After that excitement, we started exploring. We came across the Chinese garden which was beautiful. The colours and textures of some of the trees in this area were just stunning, and I tried to capture that with these images:
A short distance away, you will find the waterfall. A gorgeous, calm place, listening to the gently cascading water.
By this point, Charlotte and I had spent so much time taking a ridiculous amount of photos, that we decided to leave the Chinese garden and headed to the Queen Mother Memorial Garden. The sun was getting lower and I knew that we did not have too long left until the Gardens closed, but there was still so much to see!
On our way there, we stopped to watch a gentleman feeding the birds and the squirrels. I couldn’t resist getting some snaps of them.
We agreed that on our next visit, we need to bring some food to feed them. That will be the best way for us to get some great up close photos.
We only managed to spend some time at the entrance to the Queen Mother Memorial Garden and again, took a ridiculous amount of photos there! Here are some of my favourites from this area:
Before we knew it, it was closing time and we had to make our way back to the car. The Botanic Gardens is enormous, and we didn’t even see half of it, so we have much more to see and explore. It was great experience in such a beautiful environment. I would highly recommend a visit there if you haven’t been before.
